It's almost Chinese New Year again! Yay! I love Chinese New Year. I love wearing red on the first day of CNY. I love CNY eve with the family reunion dinner and the prayers to the Jade Emperor at midnight. I love the angpows even though it's going to cost me a lot to give them out this year. I love the firecrackers popping and the din of a lion dance. I love all the decadent goodies you get to eat this time of year and meeting relatives I only get to see once a year.
I'm done with the shopping for CNY. I bought some pussy willow and 8 mini lanterns to decorate it. Popped over to IKEA and got me a vase. I put it where our Christmas tree used to be and propped up a small lion I got. I'm not sure why they're called lions when they're really Nians. I thought I would get a lion because the World Champions of Lion Dance come from my hometown - check them out!
Then I framed up some Chinese paper cuttings depicting the animal year Dear Hubby, Connor and I were born in and stuck a "fu" paper cutting on our front door for good luck.
Today we sent Connor off to school in a traditional Chinese top as today's theme at school is Chinese New Year. So cute to see all the kids dressed up in traditional Chinese clothing.
2011 will be the Year of the Rabbit so I'm hoping for a hoppingly bunny-rific year for us. To everyone, we Top Monkeys would like to wish you Gong Xi Fa Cai and to those making the trip home to see family, have a safe drive and happy holidays!
