The Expat-Socialite Wife Diary: Do I fit in?

Expat-Socialite Wife 1:  So where do you girls go for lunch?
Expat-Socialite Wife 2:  Well, here in Bangsar... I like La Bodega... Chilli's if the kids are with me...
Expat-Socialite Wife 3:  Oh, Alexis!   Plan B or Ben's also not bad.
Expat-Socialite Wife 1:  Where do you go for lunch, Mrs TM?
Me:  Oh, I go to the hawker centre on top of the car park near Bangsar Village 1!  You know, it was called Jolly Green or something before?  Anyway... I can  ta pau the chap fan for less than RM5!  Rice, meat, vege and tempeh!

(Complete silence and blank looks from all other wives)

Epic.

Fail.

Totally.

  1. The thing is, you are the only one who is eating truly GOOD food. The rest are pretentious crap :P

    1. The hubby thought it was a very funny story. He's like, "Let's face it, darling... you can take the girl out of the kopitiam but...!" LOL

I just object to paying loads of cash for ordinary food. Ben's at BV I was champion of making me part with hard-earned cash for less than stellar food. Just once and never again!

    1. Hehe... I'm glad I'm not alone at objecting to paying that much every day for food!

  3. Just reading this post makes me think that we'll make rather good friends haha.. Not that I don't do Ben's and Plan B, but certainly not everyday. Still prefer to cook and the occasional nasi lemak, indian rojak and meehoon goreng outside :)

    1. Yeah me too. I will go to those places, just not all the time. Given a choice between say a mamak and Ben's, I will choose mamak.

It's funny because when I first started working, meals in places like La Bodega, Alexis were a treat and I told myself one day I would be able to afford eating there anytime I like. Now that I can actually afford eating there a bit more often, I find myself preferring the kopitiams and mamak shops!

  4. I love your attitude! Having been to these classier eateries, ok, so its nice but hell for the price they charge I'd rather go to the nearest food court which is far more wholesome to me. Maybe I would treat myself once in awhile but sometimes I just feel dissatisfied of the taste and portion-wise ^_^ heck being Malay I do priortise on both ^_^

    1. Me Chinese... same thing! Taste and portion count for a LOT! I love food courts in Malaysia... so much variety, so little time!
